Number the Stars is
one of the most fascinating books I have ever read. It’s about being brave;
conquering all the fears in life and taking risks for other people’s safety. The
story tells us about Annemarie, a 10-year-old girl who lived in Copenhagen, Denmark
during the World War II. She had to help her Jewish best friend, Ellen, from
being caught by the Nazi soldiers as they were going to relocate all the Danish
Jews. She was very loyal to Ellen as she did whatever it takes to be able to
save her from the Nazi soldiers.
I really like the book because it has a really great story
that teaches us valuable lessons. One of the valuable lessons is that we have
to be able to overcome our fears and take risks, like what Annemarie did. Another
lesson that I found from the book is that we have to appreciate what we have
because we might be able to lose it someday. In the story, Annemarie
appreciated all the things that she had, like her best friend, her sister, her
parents, and lots of other things. While in my life, I sometimes don’t
appreciate what I have, like all the good friends I have. I also learn to be
more faithful to my friends and be there for them when they need me.
Even though this book is based on a true event, some of the
things mentioned in the book can be metaphors. One of them is Ellen’s Star of
David necklace that was hidden from the soldiers, it represents our devotion to
our friends, but in the historical event, the Star of David symbolized the Jews.
The soldiers represent our fears or problems in life. The Danish Resistance
represents the bravery that we need to overcome our fears or problems.
Annemarie is also a metaphor, she represents people with lots of fear. Ellen
represents people with problems in their life.
I think this book is a very good book. If I were a critic, I
would give this book a score of 9 out of 10. I really recommend this book for people who
aren’t brave enough to conquer their fears or overcome their problems and who
don’t appreciate what they have. I hope after you read the book you would learn
valuable life lessons like I did.
